Two days ago we discussed the importance of a pronated grip. But there are variations on this grip, like the mixed grip. This one has the major advantage of handling more weight. But what else is the mixed grip good for? Read on…

Mixed grips are commonly used when a deadlift is too heavy for your pronated grip. I don’t know any other reason to use it other than variation.

What is mixed grip?

Mixed grip is a grip where you MIX (surprise!) both a pronated and a supinated grip.

Advantages of using the mixed grip?

1. You will be able to hold more weight with a mixed grip
2. Variation

Disadvantage:

1. The supinated arm might suffer a bicep tear if a wrong technique is applied (eg. with deadlifts).
